Public Service Announcement - Waste in Thorsby

September 17 2025

Big changes are coming to the Waste, Recycling, and NEW Organics program in Thorsby! To learn more about these changes, read here.

Did you know?

In 2022, the world produced 62 billion kg of electronic waste (e-waste)—the equivalent of 1.55 million trucks—double the amount generated in 2010.
Electronic waste (e-waste) includes unwanted electronic equipment, such as smart devices and used cables, as well as batteries and fluorescent lights (including compact fluorescent lights). E-waste is hazardous material. Over time, electronics can leak toxic elements, like mercury and lead, which can be harmful to the environment and to humans. If thrown in the garbage, device batteries can cause fires at material recycling facilities.

The Town of Thorsby has an option for sustainable household battery waste. You can bring them into the Town Office (4917 Hankin Street) or the Arctic Spas Recreation Complex (4901 48 Avenue) during regular business hours!

For all waste that cannot be diverted through recycling and organics or our battery recycling program, you can continue to expect bi-weekly garbage services on Thursdays!
