The Town of Thorsby is a rural community, with a population of 1025, located in central Alberta only 45 minutes away from the Capital City of Edmonton. Our location allows residents to have the “Best of Both Worlds”. A rural environment only minutes away from the lake, and with immediate access to all the amenities and services of a large urban center.

Located close to Pigeon Lake and Wizard Lake the summer recreation possibilities are endless. The Lion’s Campground located within the Town is used frequently and remains a peaceful, clean and family friendly place for camping or day use. For indoor activities, the Arctic Spas Recreation Complex is a great place for anyone of any age to spend time; an arena for hockey and public skating during the winter months and other indoor events in the off season, bowling lanes, racquetball and fitness facility, library, craft room, meeting rooms, an indoor field house that includes a sports floor, indoor walking track, dance/yoga studio, weight room and so much more. With this all-round great facility and a wide range of golf courses in the area for all skill levels, families have ample recreational opportunities at their doorstep. For equine enthusiasts, the Thorsby Haymaker Centre offers a wide variety of events from Gymkhana, Team Penning, various equine clinics as well as their annual Haymakers Rodeo and has over a 100 covered stalls and camping space to host events and as well as a huge indoor arena.

Thorsby also has a large number of Community Organizations which portray the avid involvement of Thorsby and area residents. Thorsby is proud to have very active 4-H, Scouts, Hockey, Soccer, Communities in Bloom, Historical Society, Legion, and Seniors groups to name but a few. We have activities available for all ages. The two schools in Thorsby provide education from kindergarten through to Grade 12.

The Town of Thorsby has a Senior Citizens Club that provides countless outings, activities, and social events that keeps the members busy throughout the year. The Town also has a seniors home center named Happy Haven, run by the Leduc County Regional Housing Foundation ('LRHF') that is now home to some of the pioneers that put Thorsby on the map.
Thorsby is located in the heart of an active agricultural area with much of the surrounding land used for crop and livestock production. The oil, natural gas and coal industry are also a major role player in providing residents with employment. Many residents are employed in local businesses, including Blue Falls Manufacturing, allowing people to spend more time with family than commuting.
As the Town continues to grow, the peaceful, secure and friendly atmosphere of a small rural community remains. Thorsby offers an enviable quality of life for people of all ages.
