ANNOUNCEMENT - Changes to Waste/Recycling and NEW Organic Waste Pickup Services
The Town of Thorsby has recently signed a new contract with Integrity Waste Solutions Inc., the current providers for Waste/Recycling services. This contract adds organic waste bins for residents, increased the frequency of recycling, and reduced the frequency of waste collection in consideration for the arrival of organics.
What are the changes for the average resident?
Starting October 1st, 2025:
- Recycling Services
- This service will increase to a weekly frequency.
- Recycling pickup will now be on Tuesdays.
- Organic Waste Services (NEW SERVICE)
- This service will be provided in 65-gallon green-lid bins to each residence that already receives waste and recycling services. Residents do not have to call or do any extra work to receive the bin, the bin will be delivered to you.
- This service will occur weekly from May 01 to October 31, and bi-weekly from November 01 to April 30 in any calendar year.
- Organic Services will be on Tuesdays.
Starting November 1st, 2025:
- Waste (Garbage) Services
- This service will change from a weekly frequency to bi-weekly, meaning your 65-gallon orange lid bins will only be picked up once every other week on a scheduled basis.
- Waste pickup will still occur on Thursdays.
These services are all inclusive, and residents cannot opt out. Commercial properties who have opted in must receive all services, or they may opt out and contract their services privately.
Bylaw #2025-09 Amendment to the Water, Wastewater, Solid Waste Bylaw currently has passed first reading and will be considered for second and third reading on September 23rd, 2025, regular meeting of council, and the new prices will be formally published at the passage of the bylaw.
