Thorsby Fire Status
UPDATE, JULY 18TH, 2024
Fire advisory upgraded to a restriction for the Town of Thorsby
Due to hot, dry conditions, there is an increased risk of wildfires; therefore, effective immediately, the Town of Thorsby is no longer under a fire advisory. The fire advisory has been upgraded to a fire restriction.
What does this mean?
- No open fires are allowed, and all open fires must be extinguished immediately.
- Citizens can use cooking and heating appliances - such as barbecues, firepits, and patio heaters - fueled by liquid fuel like propane or natural gas.
- Citizens can also use approved burn barrels and firepits, but should use extreme caution and ensure they have water close by.
The Town of Thorsby will continue to monitor conditions and will update the public on the Town of Thorsby website, Facebook, and Alberta Fire Bans when the restriction is lifted or downgraded, or a ban is issued.

Effective immediately, the Town of Thorsby is no longer under a fire ban. The fire ban has been downgraded to a fire advisory.
Under a fire advisory, certain restrictions may be placed on burning and indicates that a fire restriction or ban may be issued depending on conditions.
Citizens can use cooking and heating appliances – such as:
- barbecues
- meat smokers
- firepits and;
- patio heaters.
Citizens are asked to use extreme caution when using burn barrels and fire pits.
The Town of Thorsby will continue to monitor conditions and will update the public on the Town of Thorsby website, and albertafirebans.ca when the advisory is lifted or downgraded, or a ban is issued.

The Town of Thorsby is now under a fire ban. There is an increased risk of wildfire due to dry conditions and high winds.
No outdoor fires are allowed – including:
- Open burning and fires contained to approved burn barrels.
- Firepits or charcoal barbecues.
- All outdoor fires currently burning must be extinguished immediately.
- The discharge of fireworks is not allowed.
Residents can use cooking and heating appliances that are fueled by liquid fuel such as propane or natural gas including:
- Barbecues.
- Firepits.
- Patio heaters.
