If joining the Thorsby team is of interest, we are currently recruiting for a permanent, full-time Public Works Manager.

Reporting to the C.A.O. , the Public Works Manager will be an integral member of the senior management team and be responsible for the safe and efficient delivery of a range of services in the planning, organization, control, and direction of issues related to water, sewer, roads and drainage systems, and maintenance of public facilities.

The successful incumbent will possess the ability and be accountable to:

Provide leadership and guidance to both internal and external stakeholders ensuring efficient utilization of resources, processes, and policies

Promote a positive work environment and ensure staff have the resources, tools and support structure required to build the knowledge, skills, and support structure required for success

Actively work with partners within other departments to ensure alignment with municipal objectives and mandatory/statutory plans and requirements

Think creatively and encourage creative thinking with regards to engineering and operation issues within tight budget constraints and be able to offer practical solutions and follow-through of projects to completion

Manage operational risks and develop mitigation strategies

Compose and submit professional reports and the ability to respond to questions from Council and its committees; provide information on program activities; update key stakeholders on emerging issues; manage strategic priorities with significant public or Council implications

Continue the development and ongoing management of quality assurance measures and programs and the asset management program

Manage the municipal Occupational Health and Safety Program

Hiring and management of Public Works staff in Union environment

Developing performance metrics and required response strategies to address issues while ensuring key performance
measures are met

Qualifications: The successful candidate will have a fully rounded, strong public works back ground in infrastructure with a preferred minimum of three (3) to five (5) years municipal management or senior supervisory experience, ability to lead the health and safety program and will be accountable to develop and manage the Public Works budget. Asset and Emergency Management experience and training is considered an asset.
