Penalties for outstanding taxes are applied as per local Bylaw 2013-08. The penalty bylaw was updated in 2013 for the 2014 tax year to enable homeowners to better control the penalties they may incur related to the current years taxes. Previously, 12% penalty was applied to all outstanding current year taxes on July 1st each year, the revised bylaw now provides for a 6% penalty only on July 1st, followed by a 2% monthly penalty on outstanding current year levies on the 1st of each month, August to December. It is hoped that homeowners will be encouraged to minimize the penalties they incur by earlier payment after the initial due date.
Penalties applied January 1st of each year on all outstanding amounts on the tax roll, remains unchanged.
Assessment notices are mailed out with the tax notices in May of each year.
