The Town of Thorsby is a rural community, with a population of 1025, located in central Alberta only 45 minutes away from the Capital City of Edmonton. Our location allows residents to have the “Best of Both Worlds” …. A rural environment only minutes away from the lake and with immediate access to all the amenities and services of a large urban center.
Thorsby boasts of three recently completed projects: Our water treatment plant came on line December 2011, with membrane technology it will ensure a superior quality water supply for many years to come for residents and provide for innovative business opportunities. A new elementary school and the redevelopment of the recently renamed Arctic Spars Recreation Complex completes the trio.
Located close to Pigeon Lake and Wizard Lake the summer recreation possibilities are endless. The Lion’s Campground located within the Town is used frequently and remains a peaceful, clean and family friendly place for camping or day use. For indoor activities, the Arctic Spas Recreation Complex is a great place for anyone of any age to spend time; an arena for hockey and public skating during the winter months and other indoor events in the off season, bowling lanes, racquetball and fitness facility, library, craft room, meeting rooms, an Indoor Field House that includes a sports floor, indoor walking track, dance/yoga studio, weight room and so much more. With this all-round great facility and a wide range of golf courses in the area for all skill levels, families have ample recreational opportunities at their doorstep. The Town of Thorsby has a Senior Citizens Club that provides countless outings, activities, and social events that keeps the members busy throughout the year. The Town also has a Senior Citizen Lodge that is now home to some of the pioneers that put Thorsby on the map.
Thorsby is located in the heart of an active agricultural area with much of the surrounding land used for crop and livestock production. The oil, natural gas and coal industry are also a major role player in providing residents with employment. Within the Town itself, the business sector is continually growing and there is a newly developed industrial park area with lots available for sale. Many residents are employed in local businesses, allowing people to spend more time with family than commuting.
As the Town continues to grow, the peaceful, secure and friendly atmosphere of a small rural community remains. Thorsby offers an enviable quality of life for people of all ages.
